When you hire an appliance repair technician, the cost depends on several factors, including where you live, how old your fridge is and what type of problem you're having. Refrigerator repair cost also varies based on fridge type. Basic models have fewer components, so they're generally less expensive to fix.

On average, it costs $250 to $400 (CAD 345 to 552) for minor repairs and $300 to $600 (CAD 414 to 828) for standard repairs. Here's how the costs break down for some of the most common brands.

GE Refrigerator Repair Cost

GE produces mid-range appliances, so parts are relatively affordable. GE has also been in business for more than a century, so it's easy to find replacement components for most models. As a result, it costs an average of $230 to $300 (CAD 317 to 414) to repair a GE refrigerator.

LG Refrigerator Repair Cost

Some LG fridges use a sealed compressor system, which is a welded circuit that includes the evaporator, condenser coils, compressor and filter dryer. Sealed systems are welded shut, so they're more complex than standard systems. You also have to use a specialized refrigerant, adding to the total cost of repairs.

LG offers a flat-rate repair program starting at $399 (CAD 550) for standard fridges and $549 (CAD 757) for fridges with sealed compressor systems. Appliance repair companies charge an average of $200 to $600 (CAD 276 to 828).

Samsung also uses sealed compressor systems in some of its refrigerators, increasing the average cost of repairs. Additionally, Samsung appliances often contain proprietary parts, making it more expensive to replace damaged components. Even minor repairs cost $200 to $400 (CAD 276 to 552).

Appliance problems are common, even when you research your options carefully and buy from a reputable brand. These are some of the most common issues associated with GE, LG and Samsung fridges.

GE Refrigerator Issues

GE refrigerators are highly reliable, but some models have problems with their temperature control boards. Without a working control board, your refrigerator can't maintain consistent temperatures. Faulty ice makers and cooling failures are also known issues.
